PRAXIS II Early Childhood: Content Knowledge (0022)

If you plan to take the PRAXIS II Early Childhood: Content-Knowledge (0022) exam, be sure to review these subjects prior to the test date: language and literacy, math, social studies, science, health and physical education, and the creative and performing arts.  Although the PRAXIS II Early Childhood: Content-Knowledge test focuses on key ideas, inquiry methods, and skills rather than pedagogy, your knowledge will be assessed within the context of what children learn. During the two-hour test, calculator use is prohibited. Not all of the test’s 120 multiple-choice questions count toward the final exam score.

Language and Literacy

Twenty-five percent of the questions on the PRAXIS II Early Childhood: Content-Knowledge exam are about math. Here are the general topics: thinking skills, geometry and spatial sense, numbers and operations, data, and measurement. Specific questions deal with problem solving, recording data, analyzing data, two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometric shapes, systems of measurement, as well as other topics.

Science

The science section contains 13 percent of the questions. The major question topics on this portion of the PRAXIS II Early Childhood: Content-Knowledge exam are biology, Earth and space science, physical science, and scientific inquiry.

Social Studies

The health questions on the PRAXIS II Early Childhood: Content-Knowledge exam chiefly focus on these areas: disease prevention; health and wellness promotion; the emotional, social, and physical factors affecting health; the systems of the body and their functions; the role of health in learning and development; and the health risks children face.

Creative & Performing Arts

Nine percent of the questions on the PRAXIS II Early Childhood: Content-Knowledge exam are about the creative and performing arts. Art appreciation and the functions of art are among the question topics.  Basic questions about the visual arts, music, theater, and dance may also appear on the test.
